This course provides an analysis of the legal grounds for telehealth practice for mental health/social work professionals under the patients' rights provisions of the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Affordability Act (HIPAA) and the subsequent, Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) of 2009.
It outlines the necessary protocol in assessing the clients' appropriateness for tele-mental health services. It provides information on the legal requirements and best practice approach in providing online and virtual mental health services within and across state lines.
NOTE: This is an essential course for every clinician's day-to-day practice that can partially fulfill the law and ethics requirements for BBS license renewal.
Design and develop protocol in assessing the appropriateness of using telehealth in providing mental health services to clients (1 hour)
Identify and Apply the best practice principles in compliance of HIPAA legal mandate and laws of different states in the practice of telehealth (1 hour)
Design and develop appropriate protocol in obtaining inform/consent from clients and managing client crises related to the provision of telehealth services (1 hour)
Social Workers, Marriage/Family Therapists, Counselors, Teachers, Educators, Nurses,Physicians, Case Workers, and other Human Service/Health Care/Mental and Behavioral Health Care Professionals, Trainees, and Peers.
