Description:
This course provides an overview of the legal and ethical obligation related to supervisor relationships, supervisor's legal and ethical responsibilities towards the clients, employer and the supervisees. It explains the meaning of "exercise of due diligence" in supervisor, due process rights and the supervisees and the proper management of disciplinary issues in supervision. It also discusses the legal doctrine of "vicarious liability" and its implication for supervisors in managing liability risks resulting from the actions of their supervisees.

Objective:
  1. Explain and discuss the legal doctrine of "Vicarious Liability" and "Direct Liability" and their application to supervision of staff and trainees.
  2. Explain and discuss what constitute "negligent supervision"
  3. Design and develop supervision agreement/contract that meets the legal and professional requirements.
  4. Analyze and apply the legal concept of "exercise of due diligence" in the practice of supervision.
  5. Identify and discuss interpersonal and professional boundary issues in supervision.
  6. Develop a supervision practice that is consistent with ethical professional conduct.
  7. Explain and describe how to manage legal liability risks in supervising both trainees and staff.
