Description:
The content of the training workshop is based on the lived experience of voice hearing and provides practical skills for people who work with people who experience distressing voices. The skills taught in the workshop include normalising, focusing and interpretation and evaluation of voice hearing and the explanations the clients have for their voices.

Objective:
  1. Describe and demonstrate skills in a person-centered approach that assists people in interpreting their voices, and assess how these skills result in positive outcomes for the client.
  2. Recognize the role voice hearing plays in people's lives and analyze how extreme states, such as anxiety and sadness, impact the experience of voice hearing.
  3. Apply CBT as a five part model to assess and translate voices.
  4. Observe and practice the normalising and validating techniques. employed within the approach, and assess how these techniques can be used effectively within the client group.
  5. Discuss the current psychological research on psychosis. This includes research that suggests that psychotic experience is part of the normal human continuum of experience.
  6. Participants will be able to explain the attitude shift required by clinicians in working within a consumer-clinician co-facilitated CBT framework with voice hearers.
  7. Participants will will be able to describe the rationale a normalising approach to voice hearing.
Intended Audience:
Those who do not need a CE certificate. Providers, caregivers, family members, and others working with people who experience distressing voices.
